Welcome to our website!

The Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day is designed to be a fun day for 10 to 17 year olds, where they can learn about fly fishing and fly fish from a boat for trout on the famous Rutland Water with an experienced boat handler.

The day is held at Rutland Water Fishing Lodge, Normanton and starts with registration at 8.00am followed by activities such as casting tuition, tying knots and leaders, tackle advice, fly tying and fishing advice.

After lunch each participant will be taken fishing by an experienced boat handler either individually or in pairs of similar ability and age. Boats will return to the lodge by 5.30pm and the event finishes around 6pm.

Entry fee £15 – includes tackle hire, fishing permit, boat hire, boat handler and light lunch. All participants will be covered by the clubs insurance and will be given free junior membership of the Rutland Water Fly Fishers club, worth £5, for the remainder of the year. An Environment Agency Rod License is not required.

For safety reasons participants must wear a life jacket (provided), hat and glasses. It is also advisable to use sun block and to have plenty of liquids to reduce the risk of sunburn and dehydration. All participants need to wear suitable clothing including waterproof outerwear.

If you are an experienced boat handler and can help on the day please email: or call Jeremy Ball on 07818424907
